The glory of Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon is one of the most spectacular natural feature in the United States, perhaps in the world.
These Grand Canyon rock layers extends for hundreds of miles across the portion of Colorado Plateau.
Grand Canyon is not the deepest canyon, but it's known for its overwhelming size and colourful landscape. Grand Canyon is significant of it's thick sequence of rock layers and it is the best canyon carved by the river 'Colorado river'.

"Arizona state, the Grand Canyon state welcomes you". That's the welcome board one could see while entering to Arizona from Nevada. The Arizona state got importance because of this world famous Grand Canyon..
The Grand Canyon, a product of erosion, is a approximately 217 miles in length through which runs the mighty Colorado River.
How it was formed ?
The fact is that no one knows for sure how and when it was formed? There are number of processes combined to create rock layers 'Grand Canyon', which we are seeing today. The Grand Canyon may be formed by erosion of wind and water. Also the other reason for the Canyon's formation may be the 'Colorado River', vulcanism and the continental drift.
According to geologists, these rock layers are wrapped up due to the force and the continental drift and the climatic changes.
When it was formed ?
The Earth was formed 5 billion years ago. Approximately 1.5 billion years the roots of the ancient mountain range, which lies now at the bottom of the Grand Canyon were formed.
The glory and beauty of Grand Canyon is they shine like Golden Rock layers when sun light falls on the rock.

History behind the 'Shiva Temple'
In my research, I came to know that there are people who led expeditions on this Grand Canyon and discovered fascinating features of Grand Canyon. John Wesley Powell was the first man who did expeditions to this Grand Canyon and then ClarenceEdward Dutton, captain of US Army, a geologist-poet himself and fascinated by East. He founded the various rock formations and named them as Hindu triad 'Brahma', 'Vishnu' and 'Shiva'. Mr Dutton named the greatest and grandest of the rock ranges as 'Shiva Temple'.
